St Moritz, Glacier Express and Zermatt

Today we had an early start, heading to St Moritz to look around a bit before boarding the famous Glacier Express to Zermatt. St Moritz looked OK, but I don’t think it is my kind of place. Although the possibilities for paragliding looked OK.

The Glacier Express winds it’s way through the Swiss Alps via mountain passes, serpentine tunnels and brave bridges. You can go most of the way with normal trains, but onboard the Glacier Express, you travel in style. Panorama windows all the way up in the ceiling provide great views, while you dine and wine. It’s all very civilised.

Eight hours of this, and it was a bless to stretch our legs in Zermatt, where the impressing mountain of Matterhorn (a. k. a. the Toblerone mountain) looms in the background. We had a sobering look at the cemetery, where stone after stone commemorated fallen climbers, then had a beer or two at a local bar.
